Planning a Performing Arts Centre for
Prince George & region
Past
reports
The
Cultural Plan for the RDFFG,
2006
and
the
Harris
Report,
2006
identified that a
Performing Arts Centre in Prince George
will:
-
respond
to recent trends
to
boost
tourist activities
in regions by identifying and
developing
cultural clusters
-
build
a critical mass of cultural facilities
for a cultural district in downtown
Prince George,
and
-
act
as a catalyst for
regional, city and
downtown economic development.
The 2008 Webb report
The
2008 study conducted by Webb
Management Services Inc., a theatre
consultant who has worked with over
200 organizations such as the PGRPAC
Society, concluded that the facilities
in Prince George are generally of poor
quality and will no longer adequately
support modern productions, whether
produced and presented by local
organizations or by touring
companies.
The
value of a Performing Arts Centre for
Prince George & region
A

development of a creative culture and
creative economy,
-
enhance central business district
social and economic development,
-
increase
capacity of the region as a
destination for cultural tourists,
-
increase capacity of the City to host
conferences and conventions,
-
enhance
lifestyle options and improve resident
retention,
-
increase
opportunities
for
residents of the region
to attend touring performance programs,
-
showcase
regional performing artists &
organizations in professional
facilities,
-
provide expanded arts education
opportunities,
-
create
a
central gathering place as part of
a
Prince George
Smart Growth
plan, and
